GPMEA_7 · Weekly survey

Close Module 7. Name your next real kickoff. Set the rehearsal.

Four parts. Answer all four. Thursday is a rehearsal hour rather than a question hour, and this survey is what the facilitator builds it from. Nothing on this page is stored anywhere, so finish it in one sitting.

A kickoff does not explain the project. It assigns the project.

Part 1 of 4

The takeaway

In one sentence, what did you believe a kickoff was for before this module?

Write what you actually believed, not what you now know. The gap is the lesson.

Part 2 of 4

The scenario

A project manager runs a technically flawless kickoff. The plan is presented, all five areas are aligned, decisions are documented and sent the same day. Six weeks later the client calls the Principal in Charge directly about a schedule concern rather than calling the project manager. Which belief was never established?

Reveal

They understand me, and it was lost in the room. Everything delivered in that kickoff was the team’s own material, presented well. Nothing in it traced back to a sentence the client said, so the client never got evidence of being heard, and a client who does not feel heard escalates to whoever they believe is listening. Belief two comes from playback and Experience Points, and neither one was designed.

Performance is delivered over months. Experience is delivered in moments, and the first moments are at kickoff.

Part 3 of 4

The live session

Name the next kickoff you will run, the client, and the one thing about that room you are least sure of. We will rehearse the hardest ones on Thursday.

Write the fear plainly. The rehearsal hour is built from these answers, and a vague answer buys a generic round.

Part 4 of 4

The application commitment

Your next real kickoff, on paper, before you walk into it.

An Experience Point traces to something the client actually said, sits on the agenda before the meeting, and is visible in the room. A moment with no client sentence behind it is hospitality rather than an Experience Point.
